SuperChamps, Round Two
Daytona Milton Keynes
A cool, misty start greeted drivers for Round Two of the SuperChamps series at Daytona Milton Keynes, as 37 competitors took to the Linkback/Cliffdrop layout. The morning fog quickly cleared to reveal perfect dry running conditions, setting the stage for an exciting day of racing across all four classes.
In SODI Practice, it was Aston Tempany-McColm who set the early benchmark in the Lightweight category, clocking a 1:19.604 to top the timesheets. Among the Heavies, Ben Paines led the way with a confident showing, adapting quickly to the evolving track conditions.
Meanwhile, in DMAX Practice, James King topped the times with a 1:11.352 in the Lightweight field. In the Heavyweights, consistent front-runner Antony Wypych set the pace to lead his class heading into the Heats.
The opening SODI Heat One saw Dominic Fleming seize the advantage early on to claim victory in the Lights, followed closely by Jacob Kent and Megan Earing. In the Heavies, former champion Barry Morris made a strong statement with a commanding win ahead of Charlie Fenton and Lee Robson.
In DMAX Heat One, King continued his strong form from practice, taking a convincing win in the Lights ahead of Freddie Burden and Samuel Spencer. Among the Heavies, Ashley Mayston-King dominated proceedings once again, finishing clear of Wypych and Myles Bate.
The second round of Heats mixed up the order in the SODI field, with Kent taking the win this time around after a strong performance. Earing improved on her earlier result with second place, while Lewis Bowey completed the top three. Morris made it two from two in the Heavyweight class, holding off Paines and William O’Toole to complete another impressive drive.
Over in the DMAX field, King extended his winning streak with another victory in Heat Two, this time ahead of Adam Hawtin and Burden. The Heavyweights followed a familiar pattern, as Mayston-King once again took control of the race, with Wypych securing another second-place finish and Bate making it a third consecutive podium in third.
With the grid set for the SODI Final, Bowey delivered when it mattered most, controlling the race from the front to take victory. Tempany-McColm converted his practice pace into a strong second place, with Kent rounding out the podium in third. In the Heavies, Paines claimed a well-earned win, fending off Fenton and Morris in a closely fought battle for the top spots.
The day concluded with the DMAX Final, where King completed a clean sweep of victories to extend his championship lead, followed home by Burden and Hawtin after a tight three-way fight for the podium. Mayston-King continued his dominant Heavyweight campaign with another commanding win, while Wypych secured second and Bate made it three third-place finishes in a row.
A dry and competitive Round Two saw several familiar names strengthen their title credentials, while others will look to regroup ahead of Round Three as the championship momentum begins to build.
Jamie Chadwick Series, Round Eight
Daytona Tamworth
We returned to Daytona Tamworth for the Round Eight of Jamie Chadwick Series in very foggy and cold conditions. However, that would not deter the drivers in what promised to be a very competitive morning of racing.
The day began with the Junior and Cadet classes taking to the field of battle to continue their race toward championship supremacy. Daisy Bradstock marched to victory over the twenty-five minute Junior race, taking the fastest lap of the race on her way to a winning margin of nearly five seconds head of runner-up Phoebe Hardy. It was really the battle for second where most of the entertainment from the race was found, second to fourth separated by just eight tenths of a second at the end of the race. Tamworth Inkart regular Athena Cooper was pushing hard for a podium spot, but ended up falling just four tenths short of Tilly Watson, who completed the podium.
In the Cadet class, Tamworth's Inkart grid was represented heavily at the pointy end of the field - with championship contenders Freya Lally and Jess Kirby finishing first and second. Lally was six tenths faster than anyone else in the field, a really dominant performance over the course of the twenty-five minutes. Kirby was fairly comfortable in second, and despite being ten seconds behind Lally was fifteen seconds ahead of Alicia Waterhouse, who completed the podium.
In the N35-ST class, both Intermediates and Lightweight categories were heavily represented and hotly contested in this round. Just two points separated the entire Intermediate podium at the end of the round, with a dramatic post-race appeal being the deciding factor in the overall victory. On circuit, Beate Grinspone had done just enough to take victory by virtue of her fastest lap point ahead of Reyhaneh Abdolrazagh, but her race start was put under race control review and she was given a jump-start penalty upon review which took away the solitary point that would have won her the round. It was therefore a fantastic round for Abdolrazagh, who's victory in the second race was enough to take top spot. Clara Norris was also very quick throughout, two top three finishes helping her take third and claim a podium position.
As for the Lightweights, Chloe Smith was entirely dominant in this round - taking the full sweep of 101 points at the end of the two races, with two very dominant victories. After missing out on the podium in the Junior series, Athena Cooper used her new found experience in the N35 karts to finish in second place, after two top three finishes from the two races. Her main competition was Tilly Watson, who finished third but completely mirrored Cooper's finishes - meaning the two were tied on points and only separated by Cooper's superior fastest lap.
Over in the DMAX class, Julia Stankowiak and Hope Wood have had some very entertaining battles so far in this Jamie Chadwick Series season, and that trend continued at Daytona Tamworth. Stankowiak ended up victorious, taking two relatively comfortable victories in the two races, but was denied a round sweep by Hope Wood's superior fastest lap over the round. It was therefore Hope Wood who took the runner-up spot, with Lucie Shuckford making up the rest of the podium after finishing third in both of the two races. Frankie Yates was victorious in the Intermediates class yet again after an uncontested run to victory.
It was a thoroughly entertaining day of racing at the Jamie Chadwick Series, and we look forward to welcoming drivers back to do it one more time at Milton Keynes in a month's time.
