SuperChamps S3 2024: Glory for Jude Lillyman, Benjamin Tomkinson-Gray, Alex Jackson & Matt Ellis
Just like that the finale was upon us at Daytona Tamworth on Saturday 21st December, with the sun set, the floodlights on, it was the start of the GP format.
Alex Jackson is looking for his second DMAX-GT Lightweights victory entering into the final round. Benjamin Tomkinson-Gray, who previously finished third in the DMAX-GT Lightweights then placed second last season when he moved into the N35-ST Lightweights. With this in mind Tomkinson-Gray is aiming for first in the N35-ST Lightweights. With just a few points separating Leo Jackson from second in the N35-ST Lightweights, he is hoping to move up that podium ladder.
As it happened…
N35-ST
During the 10-minute qualifying session Jude lillyman took pole by just over three tenths to Heavyweight Benjamin-Tomkinson-grey. Both were fighting for their own championships in different classes and the best way to do that was to lead their respective weight classes. In the Lightweights, Lillyman was in the lead, followed by Sam Makinson and Rhys barker for the top three qualifying position. In the Heavyweights Benjamin-Tomkinson-grey was in first followed by Ben Pains and then James Clare.
During the fifteen-minute shootout race, moves were being made all over the grid, more noticeably in the Lightweight category. Jude Lillyman, Lucas Gathercole and Leo Jackson traded blows throughout the whole race. The gap between the top three hadn’t exceeded 1.5 seconds at any point. With all the pressure from the two behind, Lucas Gathercole took the win. For the Heavyweights Benjamin-Tomkinson-grey took the win by three tenths back from Ben pains.
The final race of the season was finished off with Leo Jackson taking the round win in the Lightweights, while Lucas Gathercole receiving second on the podium with Lillyman taking third place. In terms of Heavyweights, Ben-Tomkinson-grey took the round win with Pains taking second and Chris cleaver taking third.
DMAX-GT
The same format was in place for our DMAX drivers. Alex Jackson took pole position by just a tenth of a second back to his Lightweight competitor joseph Simcock while jack Middleton being a further tenth back from Simcock in second place. In the heavyweights, Tom Duffy was leading the charge into the first race grabbing pole. Matt Ellis was just two tenths back in third and Kristine Kolodziejski a further two tenths back from second place.
The battle between the top two Lightweights never reached over five tenths and at the checkered flag the gap was just under four tenths between the two DMAX titans, Jack Middleton and Alex Jackson. Just like Qualifying, Tom Duffy took the lead in the Heavyweights with Kolodziejski finishing second in class and Matt Ellis third.
During the final race, the two titans finished first and second in the Lightweights with Alex Jackson taking the round win, followed by jack Middleton in second and Joseph Simcock in third. The Heavyweights saw, Matt Ellis grab the round win with a gap of nine seconds back from Tom Duffy. Rounding off the podium was Kolodziejski taking home third place.
