Driver of the Month January 2026 – Freya Lally

The Trailblazer

Freya Lally, Daytona’s Driver of the Month for January 2026

Still a Cadet but already carving out a résumé that many seasoned racers would envy, Freya Lally’s rise through the ranks has been defined by composure, consistency, and a quiet confidence that belies her age. From championship-winning performances to landmark moments for women in karting, January’s Driver of the Month isn’t just one to watch, she’s already shaping the future.

Freya’s karting journey began not with a long family motorsport lineage, but with a birthday party. A casual trip to Teamsport Manchester Victoria quickly became something more when she found herself beating adult karts during an indoor session. Motorsport didn’t run in the family, but speed clearly ran in her blood. After progressing through indoor karting and being invited to Discover Your Drive at Teamsport Trafford, Freya’s development accelerated rapidly. A full year of indoor racing laid the foundations before she made the leap outdoors into Daytona’s academy pathway. Her first taste of Daytona Race School proved no obstacle either, as she topped the timesheets and was awarded Driver of the Day. What followed was a decisive shift from trying karting “for fun” to pursuing it with intent.

Freya describes her racing style as fair but assertive. She won’t force unnecessary contact, but she won’t give up ground easily either. That balance has become one of her biggest strengths, particularly under pressure.

“I like to race aggressively, but clean,” she explains. “I don’t want to spin people out, I just want to beat them.”

It’s a mindset that’s paid dividends. In the 2025 Jamie Chadwick Series Cadet Championship, Freya delivered two perfect rounds including an incredible win at her home track, Daytona Tamworth in Round Eight. She highlights being presented her trophy by F1 Academy Champion, Abbi Pulling as one of many amazing experiences from the series, alongside meeting Jamie herself in the following round.

But it was the InKart Cadet Championship where her season truly stood out.

“In the Cadets, Freya Lally was unstoppable,” wrote our Tamworth team. “Finishing no lower than second throughout the entirety of the championship.”

They weren’t wrong. Freya secured the InKart Cadet title for the second year in a row, rarely qualifying outside the top three and carving through the field whenever circumstances demanded it. Wet or damp conditions became an advantage rather than a threat, she thrives when grip is changing, reading the track while others struggle.

“It honestly felt quite easy this year,” she admits. “Even if I started lower than usual, I knew I could work my way back to the podium.”

One of the defining moments of Freya’s racing last year came not just with a win, but with who stood beside her. Finishing P1 in Season One of the 2025 InKart series alongside Jess Kirby in P2, the pair made Daytona history as the first two female drivers to lock out the top spots of a championship podium outside the Jamie Chadwick Series.

“It felt really special,” Freya says. “Sharing that moment together made it even better.”

That sense of collective success extends beyond championships. Over Christmas, Freya teamed up with Jess Kirby and Mia Gualtieri to contest the Daytona Milton Keynes Christmas Endurance race as an all-girls team and won. Against seven all-boys teams, the trio executed a flawless race. Yet again making Daytona history, as our first all-female Cadet endurance team and first all-female team to win an endurance race - an absolutely monumental achievement and one that will not be quickly forgotten.

Away from the circuit, Freya is already gaining exposure to the wider motorsport world. As part of her MSUK Girls Karting Academy scholarship and her involvement with Girls on Track UK, she was invited to 10 Downing Street to celebrate 75 years of Formula 1, a once-in-a-lifetime event. Meeting figures like Sir Jackie Stewart, Jenson Button, Damon Hill and Susie Wolff brought the scale of the sport into focus. Wolff herself later highlighted Freya as the first girl to reach the BIKC National Finals on social media, a moment that underlined why visibility matters.

“Girls on Track supports women in all roles in motorsport,” Freya explains. “It’s important for girls to see other girls racing and working in motorsport.”

That sense of belonging is growing. Freya points out how close-knit the community has become, particularly among female drivers and their families both at Daytona and beyond.

Unlike some of our previous Driver of the Month recipients, Freya isn’t racing for balance alongside another career. This is the goal. Her 2026 plans include Club 100 North and South, the Shenington Inter Rotax Club Championship, and a move further into owner karting. The immediate target is simple: seat time, experience, and removing her novice plates. Beyond that lies Junior Rotax, Senior Rotax, and, if everything aligns, F1. Not to mention, we’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for her at the upcoming season of the Jamie Chadwick Series.

Her biggest supporter throughout has been her dad, who’s attended every race, covered the costs, and helped with race tactics along the way. A lifelong casual motorsport fan who has jumped feet first into the community to better help his daughter pursue her passions.

For young racing hopefuls watching Freya’s rise and wondering whether karting is for them, her advice is refreshingly grounded.

“Just try it,” she says. “There are safety measures, you can pace yourself, and it’s all about having fun. If you go flat-out and crash straight away, you won’t enjoy it. Drive how you want and build from there.”

With titles defended, history made, and a clear pathway ahead, Freya Lally represents exactly what Daytona’s Driver of the Month is about, talent nurtured through opportunity, community, and ambition. January 2026 belongs to her.
