SuperChamps Round 3 - Daytona Milton Keynes

SODI

A cold but sunny morning painted the backdrop for Round Three of SuperChamps at Daytona Milton Keynes on Sunday 2nd March.

In the hotly contested Lightweight class it was Thomas Langford who took pole position, pulling away from Liam Weatherall in a lightning two-tenths of a second move which saw Charlie Csepreghi follow shortly after rounding out the top three for the race.

In the Heavyweight division Freddie Jenkins took pole, followed by Charlie Fenton and David Line.

The next race saw some world-class driving which brought about astonishing results… Daytona Milton Keynes veteran Fenton was able to edge the overall race win despite being in the Heavyweight class, highlighting some real skill on track. Jenkins followed up, along with Line completing the Heavyweight podium. There was an all-familiar 1-2 lineup in the Lights as Charlie and Jacob Csepreghi took first and second place, further cementing their title ambitions. Lewis Bowey came into his own, settling into the race, laying claim to third place in a fastest lap run.

Despite impressive performances all round, the Feature Race began in controversy as Fenton and Jacob Csepreghi both jumped the start, receiving penalties as result.

Exacerbating this less-than-ideal start, multiple penalties were applied over the course of the race, however, Charlie Csepreghi managed to dig in to earn a barnstorming victory taking a first-place win by over six seconds. He was followed by Max Lindgren and Freddie Burden who made a great account of themselves but were unable to keep up with Charlie’s pace on the day.

In the final Heavyweight race, Freddie Jenkins was able to assert his dominance on the track and take the win, with Richard Da Silva coming home in P2 followed by Sailesh Shah.

DMAX

The DMAX practice was just as exciting, showcasing a dominant display from the returning Jamie Tiley-Gooden, who took pole position in the Lightweights which was narrowly missed by P2 and P3 winners, Barry Morris and Jacob Equeall. In the Heavies, Ashley Mayston-King took pole, Scott Woosey took second and Tom Duffy rounded out the top three.

Tilley-Gooden’s dominance didn’t wain in the shootout, converting an early pole into a race win in a determined display. Equeall flaunted a spirited display managing to pip Morris to P2 with a charging James King coming in just behind after starting at the back of the field. Mayston-King also managed to convert his pole in the Heavies to another victory, followed by Duffy and Myles Bate.

In the Feature Race, it was once again Tiley-Gooden taking the race win by almost six seconds. After some intense battles in the midfield, it was King who managed to rescue P2 with Equeall rounding off the podium in the Lights. The familiar Mayston-King bought home another win in the Heavyweight class after pushing through the lightweight battlefield. He was followed by shortly by Bate and Duffy who equally exhibited some admirable racing.

Jamie Chadwick Series Round 2 - Daytona Tamworth

The second round of the Jamie Chadwick Series in 2025 saw the championship travel to the northernmost of the three venues on Sunday 2nd March: Daytona Tamworth. A glorious blue-sky day and a dry track greeted the drivers, with Tamworth’s fast and flowing turns ready to host the day’s action.

Juniors

After just the single grid of nine drivers in each class at Sandown Park, the large interest in the Junior & Cadet fields saw the grid expanded, meaning that for this round, qualifying and the races had to be run InKart-style across two grids, with the top half in qualifying going into the A Final and the bottom half in the B Final (with the winner of the B Final in each class being promoted to the A Final).

In Junior qualifying, newcomer Amelie Johnstone took pole by a dominant margin - an entire second clear of the rest of the grid, with the rest of the A Final qualifiers covered by just a few tenths. Johnstone would convert on this qualifying pace, winning the race by just over 4 seconds, but was kept honest throughout by a sterling drive from Round One runner-up Milena Clark, who set the fastest Junior lap of the day. Those two were clear of the rest, but B Final winner Cora Moore did exceptionally well to claim P3 from last on the grid. Round One winner Sarah Telford came home in P4, meaning that she is now tied with Clark at the top of the standings.

Cadets

Tamworth’s InKart has recently been witness to a new crop of female Cadets, with Lily Catignon and Freya Lally joining last InKart season’s P3 finisher Jess Kirby at the front of many an A Final. Indeed, that experience seemed to be paying dividends, with Kirby taking pole from JCS Round One winner Catignon.

Catignon’s strong form in Round One certainly translated, as she took a dominant victory ahead of Lally and Alicia Waterhouse, who took her first podium of the season. Catignon was the last Cadet on the lead lap and set the fastest lap of the race by an impressive half a second, with a time that didn’t look out of place compared to the Juniors. An issue for Kirby saw her drop to the back of the Cadet field. After two wins and two seconds respectively, Catignon and Lally are now firmly established at the top of the table.

N35-STs (4-strokes)

As usual, a ten-minute qualifying would set the grid for the first of two 15-minute races, with equal points being scored for each, and the grid for the second race being determined by the Race One finishing order. Debutant Chloe Smith kicked her season off in style by taking pole position by three-and-a-half tenths Zoe Cattet, who started the season of in style at Sandown by taking maximum points in 4-stroke Lights. Row two was comprised of two Inters driver, namely Chloe McNally and Tamworth SuperChamps regular Amelia Charlesworth.

The opening lap of Race One saw a fairly large incident at turn five, causing the red flag to have to be deployed and leading to a shortened ‘Shootout’ once the race resumed. It was exceptionally close towards the front, but Cattet managed to make it three wins from three so far this season, with just a second separating herself, Smith, McNally, and Round One Junior driver Athena Cooper.

If Race One showcased how to scrape out a result, Race Two established Cattet as the firm early favourite for the Lights title, as she led from pole position and won the race by a very comfortable eight seconds, setting the fastest lap of the day in the process and ensuring maximum points from the first two rounds. Smith was the only one able to stay near, as she too had a comfortable gap back to Inters winner McNally, who just edged out Grace Lee-Davis, who scored equal points across the day as Cooper, but secured P3 overall in Lights by having a better fastest lap. Charlesworth received a one-place penalty, but it didn’t affect her position in-class (P2 for the day), and an excellent performance from Lena Reading throughout the event saw her complete the Inters podium.

DMAX-GTs (2-strokes)

Tamworth regulars would have seen the likes of Hope Wood and Julia Stankowiak frequenting the venue in the couple of weeks leading up to the event, competing in several open practices and races to get some seat time. This practice seemed to pay off, with Wood and Stankowiak taking pole and P3 in qualifying respectively, split by Grace Lee-Davis, the only driver to compete in both 4-strokes and 2-strokes on the day.

The top three in qualifying would continue to show their class in Race One, with Wood leading from lights to flag, setting what would become the fastest lap of the day, although she was always under pressure from Lee-Davis and Stankowiak, just a couple of seconds between each driver as they crossed the line, a significant distance clear of the rest of the field. In Race 2, Stankowiak managed to dispatch Lee-Davis early-on, and mounted an attack on rival Wood throughout the race. However, last season’s P3 finisher overall in DMAX held her nerve and crossed the line to win by just over a second from Stankowiak. Lee-Davis was narrowly beaten to P3 in the race by Sophie Carter but had done enough to secure P3 in Lights for the event.

In Inters, Frankie Yates had it all her own way, taking a straightforward pole, two race wins, and the fastest lap, to maximise her points for the round.

Thursday Night League Round 5 - Daytona Tamworth

After weeks of mixed conditions, the drivers of the Thursday Night League welcomed a dry run at Tamworth for the first time this season. Our first race in the Lightweight N35-ST category was kicked off in style by Junior InKart Champion, Joseph Smith who on his Thursday Night League debut took the lead in just four tenths of a second from Tom Moreton and Championship leader, Jude Lillyman. Reports of Smith’s performance highlighted it as one of his most impressive since he secured his InKart title. Confidently leading from lights to flag amassing a twelve second gap between him and P2 while setting the fastest lap of the race. While after a couple of midfield results this season, Moreton did exceptionally well to secure P2 and his first podium of the season. It was newcomer Louis Roberts who claimed P3, narrowly beating Championship lead Lilleyman to the podium.

In the Heavyweight Division Brandon Gathercole’s long awaited and much deserved P1 has come after many podium finishes. Shortly followed by Anthony Delaney who chased throughout coming in just a tenth of a second after Gathercole. It was Round Four winner and SuperChamps driver James Estrop who completed the Heavyweight podium.

In DMAX’s, Lucas Gathercole took an early lead, continuing his form after a rapid qualifying. However, a formidable challenge from Daytona debutant Tommy Lee-Davis saw Gathercole lose out on pole. A back and forth ensued which did little to slow their pace, dropping the rest of the field and lapping within milliseconds of one another for the duration of the race. Gathercole’s dynamism earned him the fastest lap of the race, but it wasn’t enough to challenge Lee-Davis’ consistency through the corners earning him a debut victory. Jude Lillyman completed the Lightweight podium in P4 overall.

In Heavies, no one could stop Tom Duffy from securing a fifth successive win and P3 overall. Newcomer Aaron Short was an excellent P2 in his debut race, and Robbie Scott made it three podiums from the three rounds he’s competed in so far this year.

Thursday Night League Round 5 - Daytona Milton Keynes

Thursday Night League returned to Daytona Milton Keynes for Round 5 on the infamous Bus Stop layout. With a very competitive field in both the SODI and DMAX categories, the races promised nail-biting action throughout.

Despite a strong qualifier in the SODI’s Adam Pughe was unable to keep up with the unyielding pressure of Barry Morris who’s charging speed allowed him to take both the race victory and fastest lap. To add insult to injury Pughe was dropped a further place following two race penalties which allowed Charlie Csepreghi to promote to P2.

In the Heavyweights, David Rollins capitalized on a qualifying lead and take home a dominant victory over Richard Danby and Ash Chivers.

In the DMAX’s, James King was on top form, taking home a race win and fastest lap in an astounding display on track. While Lee Schnitzler and Nathan Boyle both held their qualifying positions to round off the Lightweight Podium.

Once again there was no change in the Heavyweights from qualifying. Paul Studd took the round win with Mayston King and David Rollins holding their positions in the Race.
