The Battle for National Championship Supremacy Continues in Tamworth
On the 21st of June some of the best kart racers in the UK congregated at Daytona Tamworth for Round Two competing for one of our most sought after titles - DMAX National Champion. With September's final at Daytona Milton Keynes now on the horizon, we look back at the highlights from the Endurance class, where 17 top long-stint drivers took to the track to settle old scores.
With mixed weather dancing between optimal race conditions creating a greasy surface, a packed track started their engines and took to competition with a solid hour of racing ahead of them. The Lights battle was particularly exciting with a race-long war between Julia Stankowiak and James King catching the attention of all in attendance. Trading places throughout, it was Stankowiak, the underdog in this colossal match up, who came out on top - seizing P1 in a nail biting final move.
Behind them another battle for the ages was taking place between Nihal Joye and Daniel Varlan. In this wild scrap Varlan took the lead and managed to secure a podium position.
The Inters class featured yet more close fighting, with previous Driver of the Month and hometown hero, Antony Wypych locked in a battle for P1 alongside Kuba Wozniak and Justin Elliott. After an hour of quick corners, long straights and as much back-and-forth as a tennis match, Wozniak took victory, shortly followed by Wypych and Elliott.
The Heavyweight class was a different story all together. One man took the win and it won't come as a surprise to Daytona devotees. Ashley Mayston-King, a well-known titan of the division took a commanding win, with a thirty second lead on his closest competitor and a fastest lap time to boot. Alex Prichard and Alex Tucker followed, no mean feat with such a competitive grid.
Watch for yourself below and keep an eye out for the third and final round, coming to Daytona Milton Keynes on Sunday 21st September.
