The Natural: Racing on Raw Talent
Charlie Foster, Daytona's Driver of the Month for July 2025
It’s hard to race at any decent standard at Daytona without hearing one name. Charlie Foster. His name has become synonymous with grit, pace, and a kind of quiet charisma that sets top-tier drivers apart. He’s only been racing for three years, but in that time, he’s stacked up more accolades and experience than many drivers manage in a decade. Track staff can’t speak highly enough of him, often citing his composure, humility, and respect whatever the circumstances, all of which make us proud to announce him as our Driver of the Month for July.
From Crawley to Championship Contender
Charlie’s journey began back in October 2022 with a casual visit to Teamsport Crawley. What started as a bit of fun quickly ignited a passion for motorsport, and with the guidance of a race instructor named Crissy Harding, things escalated fast. Within three months, he was fully immersed, racking up laps, shaving down times, and even setting a lap record on the Level 3 layout.
The next logical step? Outdoor karting. As a local lad, Daytona Sandown Park became the proving ground. But the transition wasn’t seamless, Charlie admits he was initially circulating at the back of the pack. Determined to improve, he booked a tuition session, knuckled down, and set his sights on the Thursday Night League and SuperChamps.
It was here that the game changed. He notes racing alongside the best taught him that it’s not just about skill, he says: “It’s more about mentality than racing”.
Climbing the Ranks
That confidence paid off. By competing regularly in the TNL and SuperChamps, Charlie not only found his feet but also found his tribe. He struck up friendships with established DMAX racers like James King, Ashley Mayston-King, and Tom Brown, who offered him advice and encouragement. Before long, he was toe-to-toe with the best.
His DMAX debut came unexpectedly. One SuperChamps round, Charlie was offered a last-minute DMAX assessment during a joint-grid race. At just 14 years old, he was deemed ready, a huge testament to both his natural ability and the maturity he carried on track.
Since then, the trophies have been stacking up:
- EKS Championship wins.
- Buckmore Endurance titles.
- Daytona Sandown Park Battle of the Ages 2024 winner.
- Thursday Night League and SuperChamps Championship titles.
- Daytona Sandown Park 3-hour Endurance winner 2024 & P2 2025.
- Track records at Daytona Sandown Park Alternate, Teamsport Level 3, and Daytona Tamworth in the maiden voyage of the new DMAX fleet at the National Championship.
This isn’t just raw talent, it’s a product of hard graft, endless sim sessions, and a mentality rooted in self-belief. The impression you get from speaking to Charlie is that of quiet confidence, he regularly mentions mentality being integral to successful racing, but the essence of his drive comes from fun. Motorsport is his passion, and from speaking with countless racers at the top of their game, we know this is a seam that runs throughout the best.
A Driver with Depth
Charlie’s approach to racing is refreshingly thoughtful. He compares his style to a blend of Verstappen and Senna, aggressive when needed, calm when it counts. Preparation is key. Every night, he’s on the sim at home, rehearsing lines and keeping sharp. He’s quick to praise those who’ve supported him - Crissy for kickstarting his journey, his parents (especially when he wins!), and his KBR teammates who’ve become close friends as well as racing allies.
His proudest moment so far? A SuperChamps race win by 12 seconds, just a week before delivering consistent lap times in the DMAX 3-hour Endurance. No doubt only topped when he raised the SuperChamps trophy itself just a few weeks later - a huge accomplishment for a young driver going up against veteran racers in our most competitive championship.
Looking Ahead
Despite a stellar year, Charlie’s season hit an unexpected pause. Those following the SuperChamps closely may have noticed his absence from the grid in the final round. While we won’t go into detail, Charlie has been dealing with some medical issues that have temporarily sidelined him from racing.
What we can say is that he’s doing well, backed by his family, the Daytona community, and the unwavering support of his friends in the paddock. True to form, he’s staying involved, continuing to support KBR in a strategic capacity throughout their 2025 endurance season.
And the plan? A full return in 2026, stronger, sharper, and more determined than ever.
